The Axedale Historical Loop
Stage 1 of this exciting project has involved the research, design, production and installation of historical signage at points of interest around the Axedale Township. The loop concept was developed in a series of workshops with Axedale Our Town, Our Future and sign content has been researched and written by historian, Robyn Ballinger. The Stage 1 of the project is proudly funded by the City of Greater Bendigo, Heathcote & Districts Community Bank Branch. It is anticipated that the signs will be installed by October 2015.
The Historical Loop signage was installed in the last week of October 2015. An official launch of the loop is planned in February 2016, to coincide with hosting an event in Axedale as part of the Heathcote Community Games.
Stage 2 was completed with the launch of the Smartphone App (for iOS and Android) in November 2016. The App was supported by grant funding from the Public Records Office of Victoria through the Local History Grants Program. Thanks to Switched Pty Ltd, our App designers you can now come take a trip with us and discover the history of Axedale. Learn the fascinating history of our town – follow the loop, hear from historical characters and interact with the environment.
Signs at each stop along the loop allow you to interact through augmented reality – collect all the Platypus stickers and add them to your in-app sticker book. Play a game of memory with cards featuring some landmarks and characters that you will see & meet along the loop.
