Artist selected to create Platypus in Axedale
Contemporary Australian sculpture features on the Axedale River Reserve as the next exciting stage of Axedale’s Project Platypus. Victorian artist, Yvonne George, was selected from a competitive shortlisting of artists to produce an exciting aerial view interpretation of a platypus moving through and creating rippled water movements. The contemporary sculpture was constructed from a combination of laminated mild steel, with the platypus being cast in SG steel (creating a look similar to cast iron) and stands over 2 metres tall. An outdoor community workshop facilitated by Ms George was held in January 2014 on the Axedale River Reserve with community members contributing ideas towards the final design of the sculpture. The sculpture installation complements the new picnic tables and benches installed on the River Reserve, and is a spectacular feature to visit. |
